PHILOSOPHY OF EDUCATION
GUIDING PRINCIPLES
Education Should:
1. Be guided by the purposes set forth in the Michigan Constitution and the Northwest Ordinance.
2. Transmit the bequest of wisdom and knowledge left by our forefathers.
3. Contain opportunities for continuous personal growth, mentally, physically, and morally.
4. Provide a learning environment protected by discipline that comprehends the child's right to learn.
5. Be joyful and rewarding as new truths are learned.
6. Offer good role models because habits and morals are assimilated by observation, association, and imitation.
7. Provide the knowledge and skills necessary to learn and to work independently.
8. Allow children to learn to the extent their expected maturity dictates.
9. Have a structure in this technological information age that allows children to learn regardless of their geographical or physical location.
10. Be governed by parental choice because parents:
A. Are morally responsible for their children's cognitive and affective development;
B. Need to work as teammates with their children and professional educators to build confidence, skill, a sense of worthwhile accomplishment, and courage to face the future;
C. Will heighten the drive for educational reform by introducing competition which breeds excellence in the marketplace; and
D. Should not have taxation without representation regardless of their philosophical inclinations.
