Board Member (1 position)

Board of Directors

Responsibilities

Responsibilities -- As a member of the Board of Directors, you are faced with a unique and rewarding opportunity. Highly motivated and high-aspiring members and students will be looking to you to offer your advice, interest and encouragement as they begin their career paths. As with any endeavor, the rewards to you can be of greater value than the initial investment. As a member of the board, you may choose a number of possibilities for participation (2 minimum suggested) - several options are listed below. It is hoped through your involvement even more opportunities for interaction will be developed.

Speakers. Many board members serve as speakers during the course of the program. The program director may contact you when your particular skills or industry expertise is being highlighted. If you with to be a speaker, inform the program director.

Mentoring. A concept that would pair a program member/board member (with similar interests) for three months. The course of the relationship would evolve as the participants see fit. A guideline of at least thirty (30) minutes biweekly over the course of three months is suggested. This time could include lunches, breakfast, board/staff meetings, and shadowing, etc.

Interviewing/Recruiting. Recruiting and interviewing of prospective members is an ongoing process involving the program director, students, members, and board members. Telling people of your involvement and the Program's mission and programs goes a long way in legitimizing and promoting the Program. As prospective members apply and are interviewed, board members can take part in the interviewing process. This further commits the individual to the program as they realize the board member's involvement, while the added expertise of the board member ensures a higher caliber of participant.

Program Participation. As a board member, you are invited and encouraged to attend any Program event. Your learning is often times greater than the participants, as you share your insights, perspectives, and experiences with the session's speaker.

In-Kind Contributions. Many board members provide meeting rooms, refreshments, and other services which enables the Program to operate virtually in any facility at low cost.

Underwriting. Financial contributions help to underwrite the cost of the program administration. Members and student fees account for approximately one-third of operating funds while the rest is corporate underwriting.
